Must Eat Must Buy
The king of all Malaysian fruits, durian, is well known for its odour (which is hard to describe). It may not be a pleasant smell to Westerners, but the taste is creamy and luscious.
Pekasam is usually eaten fried and goes very well with plain rice. The main wet market is the perfect place to buy some of it.
Laksa is the quintessential coffee shop dish. You walk into a typical coffee shop, approach the lady whose stall bears the word laksa, and ask for "laksa big" or "laksa special."
The most famous fruit in Perak would be Pomelos, also known as the Shaddock. Largest of all the Citrus fruit's is a large juicy greenish yellow citrus fruit with a thick skin.
Parkia speciosa or better known as Petai, is a flat edible beans with bright green seeds the size and shape of plump almonds which have a rather peculiar smell.
The Handicraft Development Corporation of Malaysia in Perak is the most comprehensive one stop centre for tourists looking for traditional handicrafts.
